Maria Sharapova is in New York this week for fashion week in the city every two years. The second-ranked Sharapova shines in several fashion shows, posing for paparazzi photos, hobnobbing with celebrities and, most importantly, gave me the opportunity to use the word "rub".

Sharapova does not walk the runway, but was front and center at the fair in Vera Wang, sitting next to Vogue editor Anna Wintour (above). If Wintour can not be with your favorite tennis player, Roger Federer, the glamorous Sharapova is the next best thing. (As a bonus, they have the same taste in jackets.

For an event that prides itself on exclusivity, certainly there are plenty of fashion weeks. New York, London, Milan and Paris have two per year, one in the spring (for fall collections) and one in the fall (for spring collections). That means it's fashion week somewhere in eight of the 52 weeks a year. That is, two months and more than 15 percent of all weeks! Imagine if "Shark Week" tried the same tact.
